NTSE

NTSE, is an abbreviation for National Talent Search examination at the secondary school level and as the name suggests, is an all India national level scholarship exam to find out the best talent across the country and nurture it. NTSE is an annual exam which aims to identify and honour students having top academic skills and a knack for reasoning abilities.

NTSE helps such talented students in the form of monthly financial assistance throughout their academic careers and is widely regarded by students across the country as a prestigious exam to participate in and be counted among the country’s best talent. Students who qualify for NTSE also get preferential treatment in terms of admission or bonus marks at various reputed institutes like NDA (National Defence Academy), IIIT Delhi. Some institutes like IIIT Hyderabad even reserve seats for NTSE students. 1000 NTSE scholarships are awarded every year.

Scholarship Amount:

  • For classes XI and XII, the scholarship amount is Rs. 1250 per month*.
  • For undergraduate and post graduate courses, the scholarship amount is Rs. 2000 per month*.
  • For Ph.D., the scholarship amount is provided in accordance with the UGC norms*

 * Out of the total number of scholarships to be awarded, 15% is reserved  for students belonging to SC, 7.5% for students belonging to ST, 4% for physically challenged students and 1% for students with benchmark disabilities under various defined clauses.

Structure:

NTSE is conducted in two stages- Stage I and Stage II. Stage I is a state level exam and is therefore conducted by states/union territories where as Stage II is at national level and is conducted by NCERT.

Eligibility:

Stage I

  • Students who are appearing in class X are eligible to appear in NTSE provided they must have scored a minimum of 60% in class IX.
  • Students must be from a recognised school in a state or union territory.
  • Students belonging to SC/ST/OBC or who are physically handicapped are given a relaxation of 5% in terms of class IX marks.
  • Students studying through open distance learning (ODL) are also eligible provided they are below 18 years of age as on 1st July of the year in which the exam is being attempted and must also not be employed anywhere.

 

Stage II

  • Students who successfully clear NTSE stage I and score a minimum of 80% are eligible to appear in NTSE stage II.

Pattern:

  The pattern of NTSE is same for both Stage I & Stage II.
